Chase Aeroplan Mastercard on patterned background
The Chase Aeroplan Credit Card is a better deal than it's been in a long time.
  • The Aeroplan® Credit Card - Product Name Only comes with Aeroplan® Credit Card - Intro Bonus for a limited time.
  • This bonus is worth about Aeroplan® Credit Card - Featured Reward Value in travel, per Insider's valuations.
  • With this bonus, you could fly in a lie-flat business class seat to Europe or Asia (thousands of dollars in value).
  • Read Insider's guide to the best airline credit cards.

The Aeroplan® Credit Card - Product Name Only is a standout travel credit card thanks to some unique benefits. For example:

  • You can redeem your points through the Chase Pay Yourself Back feature for travel at a flat rate of 1.25 cents each. This ensures that you can get a reasonable value for your points even if you can't find the award flights you want to book.
  • You'll automatically earn 25K Elite Status when you open the card for the current calendar year and the following calendar year. Elite status comes with perks like seat upgrades and priority boarding.

On top of that, the value of Aeroplan points is above average at 1.5 cents each, per Insider's valuations.

The card now comes with a limited-time welcome bonus of Aeroplan® Credit Card - Intro Bonus. That's worth Aeroplan® Credit Card - Featured Reward Value in travel.

Let's take a closer look at this bonus to help you decide if you should apply.

We're focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won't be worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

Chase Aeroplan Card: Earn up to 100,000 points

The Aeroplan® Credit Card - Annual Fee-annual-fee Aeroplan® Credit Card - Product Name Only now offers an elevated bonus of Aeroplan® Credit Card - Intro Bonus.

That's 30,000 points higher than the previous offer. The tradeoff is that you'll have to spend a lot to achieve it — an average of $1,667 in monthly purchases on the card each month for 12 months. That's not a particularly difficult task — but it may prohibit you from earning other valuable credit card welcome bonuses, too, as you may not have much spending left to pledge to other cards.

If you manage to achieve the full bonus, you'll have at least 120,000 points after accounting for points earned from spending. But because the card comes with extraordinarily useful bonus categories, you'll probably have a lot more:

  • 3 points per dollar on Air Canada purchases
  • 3 points per dollar on dining
  • 3 points per dollar at grocery stores
  • 1 point per dollar on all other purchases
  • 500 points for every $2,000 you spend in a calendar month, up to a maximum of 1,500 points per calendar month

With 120,000 Aeroplan points, you could achieve some pretty wild bucket list trips. For example, you can fly round-trip to Europe, Asia, or southern South America in business class on a lie-flat seat with one of Air Canada's Star Alliance partners. Or, you could book up to 10 short-haul round-trip economy flights within the US on United Airlines. Or, you could book a one-way first-class flight on Etihad between the East Coast and Abu Dhabi.

The Chase Aeroplan Card is a good deal even without an increased bonus

The Aeroplan® Credit Card - Product Name Only is one of the best airline credit cards available thanks to its valuable rewards and solid benefits such as:

  • Get your free first checked bag on Air Canada flights for you and up to eight companions on the same reservation
  • Receive Aeroplan 25K status for the remainder of the calendar year, plus the following calendar year — and you can requalify for 25K status by spending $15,000+ in a calendar year
  • Achieve an Elite Status Level Up by spending $50,000 or more in a calendar year
  • Get preferred pricing on flight awards
  • Earn Aeroplan redemption benefits for meeting spending thresholds
  • Global Entry/TSA PreCheck/NEXUS application fee credit

Plus, you can now redeem your points for eligible travel purchases through Pay Yourself Back at a rate of 1.25 cents per point — with no limit on the number of points you can redeem through 2023.

If ever you fly with Air Canada (and even if you don't), this card could easily fit into your award travel strategy.

Other ways to earn Air Canada Aeroplan points

If you're not ready to commit to a credit card that earns points in a single loyalty program (but still want the option to earn Aeroplan points), you may do better with a card that earns transferable points. Aeroplan is a 1:1 transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards®, Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One miles, and Bilt Rewards.

That means you'll have access to Aeroplan points when you earn rewards with popular travel cards, including:

You can also transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Air Canada Aeroplan at a 3:1 ratio, with a bonus of 5,000 Aeroplan points for every 60,000 Marriott points you transfer.
