A United Airlines flight plunged within 800 feet of the Pacific Ocean on the same day severe turbulence injured 25 people, data shows

• According to reports from the National Weather Service, areas around Hawaii were experiencing stormy weather that day. 

A United Airlines flight taking off from Hawaii suddenly plunged to just 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean late last year, according to data from FlightRadar24. 

The data shows the Boeing 777-200 — which was flying from Maui to San Francisco on Dec. 18 — was at an altitude of 2,200 feet before suddenly dropping in just 18 seconds.

The plane came within 775 feet of hitting the ocean.
