Silvernest
- Becky Miller and Marlene Mears became roommates through home-sharing platform Silvernest.
- Silvernest aims to assist older homeowners in finding compatible roommates to share housing costs.
- A study said 10.2 million senior households spent more than 30% of their income on housing in 2019.
In 2015, Becky Miller retired and left Massachusetts behind for a new life in Colorado closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
Miller, 72, bought a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house in Longmont, a 100,000-person town about 40 miles north of Denver.
She works about 10 hours a month at the local senior center as a receptionist, but that hardly pays for her $1,095 monthly mortgage payment, let alone for food and utilities.
