Chase announced plans to launch its own airport lounges when it made sweeping changes to the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card nearly two years ago, and we're finally seeing them start to open. The Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club at Hong Kong airport (HKG) arrived on October 25, 2022, and the newest Chase Sapphire Lounge in Boston (BOS) is the first domestic location to open on May 16, 2023.

In total, Chase has confirmed nine Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club locations, although one airport is yet to be revealed. For now, we know Las Vegas (LAS) and New York-LaGuardia (LGA) are slated to open next, along with several other major US airports.

These lounges are opening in partnership with Airport Dimensions, a global lounge operator. And to get unlimited complimentary access, you'll need a Chase Sapphire Reserve® - Editorial Name Only, J.P. Morgan Reserve, or The Ritz-CarltonTM Credit Card with the Priority Pass membership activated. If you have Priority Pass access from a non-Chase credit card, you'll get one free visit per year after which a fee applies.

Here's what to know if you're eagerly awaiting the arrival of more Chase Sapphire Lounges.

We're focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won't be worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

Chase Sapphire Lounge Openings

While previously American Express led the way with its proprietary Centurion Lounges, credit card-branded airport lounge options continue to grow. Capital One recently launched its own, with the first Capital One Lounge now open at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and more to follow at Denver (DEN), Washington Dulles (IAD), and Las Vegas airports.

With Chase entering the airport lounge space, cardholders will have more choices than ever if they're looking for a stylish, comfortable spot to relax before a flight. There are now nine Chase Sapphire Lounges planned, with the following locations confirmed:

  • Hong Kong — Terminal 1 (opened October 25, 2022)
  • Austin (AUS) — Chase Sapphire Terrace (opened March 20, 2023)
  • Boston — Terminal B to C connector (opening May 16, 2023)
  • New York-LaGuardia — Terminal B
  • San Diego (SAN) — Terminal 2 West
  • Phoenix (PHX) — Terminal 4 South 1
  • Las Vegas (LAS) — Terminal 1 C Gates
  • Washington Dulles — Terminal A
  • Philadelphia (PHL) — Terminal D/E connector

Chase Sapphire Lounges promise a premium experience, with amenities that include "access to exceptional, authentic, and regionally inspired food, drink, art, entertainment, and wellness." Chase's lounges will face stiff competition at some of these airports, because New York, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Hong Kong also have Centurion Lounges, which are regarded by many as among the most upscale in the world.

Chase Sapphire Terrace Austin

The Chase Sapphire Terrace at Austin Airport isn't part of the Sapphire Lounge by The Club or Priority Pass. Instead, it's a standalone, complimentary indoor-outdoor space exclusively for Chase Sapphire Reserve® - Editorial Name Only cardholders and up to two free guests. To access the Austin Chase Sapphire Terrace, you'll just need to show your Sapphire Reserve card.

While the space is relatively small (around 5,000 square feet in total), it packs in a lot of fun amenities, including:

  • Indoor and outdoor areas to relax
  • Complimentary local beverages like cider from Austin Eastciders, beer from 512 Brewing Company, plus non-alcoholic drinks
  • Grab-and-go bites
  • Shuffleboard
  • Artwork from Austin artist and muralist Rex Hamilton

While there's no word yet on if the Sapphire Terrace concept is a one-off or if there'll be more to come, this is a terrific addition for Austin Airport travelers. Cardholders and guests can access the space within three hours of departure — unfortunately, arriving passengers aren't eligible to enter.

Chase Sapphire Lounge Access

Previously, Chase had allowed Chase Sapphire Reserve® - Editorial Name Only cardholders access by showing their card, and Priority Pass members (even from other cards) unlimited entry at no cost. But now the rules have changed for US lounges:

  • If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve® - Editorial Name Only or J.P. Morgan Reserve, you'll have to be enrolled in the free Priority Pass membership that comes with your card to access the lounge. You'll get unlimited visits for yourself and up to two guests ($27 for each additional guest, children under age 2 are free), but you'll now have to show your Priority Pass credentials — not your Sapphire card — to get in.
  • Ritz-Carlton Credit Card holders also need to enroll in Priority Pass and show their credentials for entry, but they can bring in unlimited guests at no charge.
  • If your Priority Pass membership is from a different premium card, like The Platinum Card® from American Express - Product Name Only or Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card - Product Name Only, you'll now only receive one free visit to any Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club location each calendar year. After that, you can still access the lounges, but you'll be charged a fee.

Considering there are nearly a dozen popular travel rewards credit cards that offer free Priority Pass airport lounge access, the tightening of Chase Sapphire Lounge access rules makes sense to avoid the crowding often seen at similar Amex Centurion Lounge locations. And Chase is incentivizing potential Sapphire Reserve customers by making entry more exclusive.

Of course, the Reserve is a great card for other reasons, including a bonus of Chase Sapphire Reserve®, up to $300 in travel credits each year, top-notch travel insurance, and high earning rates in popular bonus categories.

Keep in mind the Chase Sapphire Reserve® - Editorial Name Only comes with a Chase Sapphire Reserve® annual fee, so it's not for everyone. If you're looking for a card that offers Priority Pass membership (and once-a-year free access to Sapphire Lounges) at a lower price point, be sure to look at the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card with an annual fee of Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card. Here's our Capital One Venture X review for all the details.
