Chase Sapphire Lounges have been in the planning stages for nearly two years, and only one — at Hong Kong Airport (HKG) — is currently open. That's about to change with today's announcement of a new Chase Sapphire Lounge opening at Boston Airport on May 16, 2023.

The Boston Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club will offer upscale, regional-themed food and artwork, a taproom with local craft beer, wellness and treatment rooms with rest pods and massage chairs, and a slew of other upscale perks. The 11,640-square-foot space comes with views of the airfield and Boston Harbor, and promises a luxurious reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the airport.

This is exciting news for Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders, as it's the first domestic Sapphire Lounge location. If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can get unlimited free access to the new Boston lounge. But there are new restrictions to be aware of that we didn't quite expect.

Here's what to know about the new Chase Sapphire Lounge in Boston.

We're focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won't be worth it if you're paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it's important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.

Chase Sapphire Lounge Boston opening date and details

The new Boston Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club will open on May 16, 2023, at 5 a.m. Eastern Time, with normal operating hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. It's centrally located in the Terminal B to C Connector, between gates B40 and B39, making it easy to access no matter which airline you're flying.

Like other premium airport lounges, the Boston Sapphire Lounge will offer complimentary amenities and food that are steps above your average airport lounge. The lounge itself is beautifully furnished and decorated, featuring work by Boston artist Silvia López Chavez and pieces from emerging artists like Cig Harvey, Pelle Cass, Gohar Dashti, and Daniel Gordon.

The Boston Sapphire Lounge also includes quiet spaces like micro living rooms, two wellness rooms with anti-gravity massage chairs and guided meditations, a private nursing suite, a family room, two dual-head shower rooms, and an all-gender restroom stocked with fancy Apotheke products.

Chase Sapphire Lounge access

Bank-branded luxury airport lounges aren't new, and the Boston Chase Sapphire Lounge looks to be just as good, if not better than competitors like Amex Centurion lounges and Capital One lounges. One downside to these popular lounges is overcrowding — it's not unusual to see long lines to enter Centurion locations, for instance.

Chase's solution to this problem is an updated, more restrictive Sapphire Lounge access policy. When the Hong Kong Sapphire Lounge first opened, it was available to any Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder and up to two guests at no charge just by showing the credit card. Plus, Priority Pass members — even those with membership from other cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express and Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card — could also get unlimited free access.

Now the rules have changed:

  • If you're a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder, you can still get unlimited access for yourself and up to two guests — but you'll have to be registered in the free Priority Pass membership that comes with your card to enter. It's easy to sign up online, but you'll have to show your Priority Pass credentials to get in.
  • Those with Priority Pass memberships from other premium credit cards receive one free visit to any Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club location each calendar year. Subsequent visits are charged a fee.

Yes, you'll have to jump through a couple more hoops to access the lounge if you're a Chase Sapphire Reserve member, so that's a little inconvenient — and the crackdown on general Priority Pass access might be disappointing for some. But hopefully, these changes will prevent Sapphire Lounges from becoming crowded or inaccessible at busy times, and keep the new Boston location serene and refreshing as promised.
