An EasyJet passenger ended up in the wrong country after a passenger got on the incorrect flight at Glasgow Airport, the airline has confirmed.

The passenger was due to travel from the Scottish city to Faro in Portugal on Wednesday but ended up in the English city of Bristol, which is more than 300 miles from their starting location.

The plane, which was scheduled to fly from Glasgow to Portugal, waited for more than an hour for the missing passenger, multiple outlets reported. The Portugal-bound travelers held on the tarmac were told that a passenger who needed special assistance had disappeared, Daily Record reported.

It was later discovered the passenger had mistakenly boarded a flight to Bristol, per the report.

EasyJet told Insider it had made arrangements for the passenger to be flown to Portugal from Bristol. A spokesperson said the "passenger was looked after by our team throughout and escorted them to the aircraft."

The airline said it was investigating with Glasgow Airport to understand how the passenger was able to get on the wrong plane.

A spokesperson for EasyJet told Insider: "We can confirm that a passenger boarded the incorrect aircraft at Glasgow Airport on Wednesday 10 May and traveled to Bristol. As soon as this was realized, it was arranged for them to fly from Bristol to Faro, their original destination."

"We would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused," they added.

This is not the first time an airline passenger has ended up in the wrong destination.

Earlier this month, a New Jersey woman was flown from Philadelphia to Jamaica, in the Caribbean, instead of to Jacksonville, Florida. The passenger landed in Jamaica without a passport.
