Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Z Fold 5 during a launch event at its Seoul headquarters. You can preorder the new foldable right now ahead of the August 11 release date. We'll walk you through all the available Z Fold 5 preorder deals and add fresh ones below as they come in.

It will be hard to beat Samsung's offerings, though, as it's running trade-in deals to knock up to $1000 off the Fold 5 when you trade in your old phone. How much you get will, of course, depend on the model and condition of your phone, but it sure beats letting it sit around in a drawer as a very expensive backup.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5: Price and release date

You can preorder the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 today for a starting price of $1,799.99 for the 256GB model, and for a limited time, Samsung is automatically upgrading those orders to 512GB for free. Devices will officially hit the streets on August 11. You'll have your choice of shade between Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream at any retailer, and Samsung.com will exclusively carry the Z Fold 5 in Blue and Gray.

Samsung offers even more savings opportunities with up to $540 off if you purchase the new smartphone with one of the newest Galaxy Tab S9 tablets or Galaxy Watch 6 smartwatches, also announced today. If you're OK with relinquishing your old device, trade-in offers can fetch you up to $1,000 in credit toward the purchase. Bundling Samsung Care+ for added device protection and support? You can also save 30% on that for a limited time.

What's new with the Z Fold 5?

A little bit awkward, as the Z Fold 5 is perhaps best described as a belt-tightening refinement on a maturing form factor. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 builds on last year's model with an upgraded processor in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with Qualcomm suggesting 15-25% in CPU speed gains and graphics performance improvements up to 45%. The 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED Flex Display is brighter at 1,750 nits (a 30% improvement compared to the Z Fold 4).

One significant change in the Galaxy Z Fold 5's construction is the new Flex Hinge, which uses a "dual rail" structure that Samsung says offers better durability and protection from drops. It also brings upgraded wireless radios with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. It also closes that awkward gap when the phone is closed.

Otherwise, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 feels familiar compared to the previous model. It has the same three-camera array with a 50-megapixel main wide-angle sensor and 12MP/10MP sensors for ultra-wide and telephoto needs. The front camera in clamshell mode remains a 10MP sensor, and you also get the same 4MP under-display camera in unfolded mode.

It's not an extensive list if you're considering upgrading from the Fold 4, but first-time buyers of the series or even upgraders from the Fold 3 or earlier will find a lot to love here.
