Mortgage rates have had a volatile week.

Average 30-year mortgage rates started the week relatively flat compared to the week before. Then, when commentary from the latest Federal Reserve meeting suggested that a pause in rate hikes could be coming as soon as September, rates fell. But they've since trended back up in response to new economic data showing that the US economy continues to be resilient in the face of the Fed's hikes.
