We found the highest-paying jobs in New York state based on May 2022 occupational wage data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Using BLS data, we found the occupations with the highest average salaries in the Empire State.
  • Pediatric surgeon was the highest-paying job in New York, based on May 2022 data.
  • Pilots and sales managers also pay relatively well, given their average annual wages for the state.

Pediatric surgeons, pilots, financial managers are three of the best-paying jobs in New York.

Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program, we found the 30 jobs with the highest average annual salaries in New York state as of May 2022, the most recently available data. We looked at detailed occupational categories in the state that BLS had annual average wages for.

Similarly to our published list of the highest-paying jobs in the US, medical occupations loom large on the list focused on New York. Pediatric surgeons ranked at the top of the New York ranking for its average annual pay of $415,810. Dermatologists ranked No. 2 with an average at $356,080.

Sales managers was one non-medical job that made the top 30, ranking at No. 16. This kind of manager had an average annual wage of $231,380 and an estimated 28,870 employed in the state. With the average for all occupations in the state being $74,870, all 30 of the highest-paying jobs in the state had averages well above that.
