Mortgage rates are a little lower now compared to where they ended last week. So far this month, 30-year mortgage rates have been hovering right around 7%, but they could tick up depending on how Wednesday's Consumer Price Index report shakes out. 

The CPI is a leading measure of inflation. If August's data shows that inflation was higher than expected last month, mortgage rates could increase in anticipation of future rate hikes from the Federal Reserve.
