Nespresso Vertuo vs. Original

Nespresso has two main product lines: Original and Vertuo. Each line has its own companion set of pods; the capsules are not interchangeable between Original and Vertuo machines.

Original machines are better suited for frequent espresso drinkers because the system uses a 19-bar high-pressure extraction system. That gives each cup the crema and flavor closest to a traditional, manual espresso machine. With Original machines like the Creatista and Lattisima, you can make espresso-based drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, and macchiatos thanks to an integrated milk frother.

The Vertuo boasts a larger product line when it comes to capsule flavor profiles and drink variations. For people who prefer larger cups of coffee, most Vertuo machines can make 8- and 12-ounce cups. You'll still be able to make single and double shots of espresso with your Vertuo machine, but it does not brew with pressure the way espresso machines do. If you are a frequent espresso drinker, the pod version might taste slightly under-extracted.
