The PS5 is one of the best gaming consoles you can get, thanks to its growing catalog of exclusive titles, unique controller, and powerful hardware. And though the system used to be hard to find, buying a PS5 is no longer the challenge it used to be. In 2023, you can easily find PS5 consoles in stock, and we're keeping an eye out for Black Friday PS5 deals and promotions.
While there are no discounts on standalone PS5 consoles right now, there are some excellent early Black Friday PS5 deals on the brand new PS5 Slim with either Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, with $60 knocked off the MSRP. The same price is also available on the original PS5 with Spider-Man 2. That means you're getting a brand new game for free and saving a further $10 over buying the game and console separately. In all honesty, these are easily the best PS5 deals we've seen since release.

We may also see some new Black Friday PS5 bundle deals pop up as we get closer to the big sale on November 24, but we don't see that PS5 Slim bundles getting any cheaper in all honesty.
In addition to console bundles, you can snag discounts on some of the best gaming headsets for PS5, including wireless models like the SteelSeries Arctis 7+. This new version of the PS5 is slightly smaller than the original, but unlike previous Slim PlayStations, there's no official price cut with it. It does have 1TB of storage though, upgraded from 825GB on the original. As things stand, Sony Direct is the only place selling the PS5 Slim on its own, but it's still $500. So we'd avoid that for one of the bundles above for the same price that includes a game worth $70. Even if you don't want one of those games, you could always sell it online.

Is Black Friday a good time to buy a PS5?
Black Friday 2023 should be a great time to buy a PS5. Though we haven't seen too many Black Friday PS5 deals in the past, that's largely because PS5 inventory used to be so limited. Since stock is no longer a problem, we expect more Black Friday PS5 deals to be available in 2023.
This is especially likely given the new release of the PS5 Slim model. It's possible that retailers may discount the older original PS5 models to help phase them out of inventory. So far, we've actually seen deals on the Slim already.
Where to buy PS5
You can buy a PS5 at just about any major online or physical retailer that sells video games, including Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target. Certain retailers with physical store locations may limit their PS5 stock to in-store pickup.
Is PS5 stock easy to find now?
It's now much easier to find a PS5 in stock than during the first two years of the console's release. You can now see the regular PlayStation 5 with a disc drive and the Digital Edition model from retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart regularly. However, the Digital Edition tends to be available in fewer quantities, and sells out regularly.
What was the best PS5 deal yet?
It's rare to find a cheap PS5, but it's not unheard of. Most deals we see are PlayStation 5 bundles with video games or other entertainment gear like TVs, but in the past, we've seen the standard PS5 console itself drop down to as low as $450 — which is a $50 discount.
Deals on the PlayStation 5 alone are few and far between, so we recommend taking advantage of holiday bundle deals when they crop up. And be sure to keep an eye out for more PS5 deals once Black Friday comes around.
Where can I find Black Friday PS5 deals?
Once Black Friday sales kick off in earnest, we expect to see the best Black Friday PS5 deals at stores like Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop.
Which PS5 should I buy?
There are two different PS5 options: the standard PS5 ($500) and PS5 digital edition ($400). The former features a built-in 4K Blu-ray drive, while the other has no disc drive at all, which means you have to download all your games. Other than that, both offer the exact same performance.
Though the original digital version costs $100 less, we recommend the standard PlayStation 5 for gamers hoping to play old PS4 discs, buy used video games, and watch 4K Blu-ray movies. Check out our PS5 digital vs. disc guide for a full comparison.
Buyers should also keep in mind that Sony will be releasing redesigned versions of both the standard and digital-edition PS5 this holiday season. The new models will deliver the same gaming performance but will feature smaller bodies and a slightly larger 1TB hard drive. In addition, the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will now use a detachable design, so gamers who purchase the digital-edition console have the option to buy a disc drive later on to upgrade.
In the US, the redesigned PS5 with disc drive will still cost $500, but the redesigned digital-edition PS5 will cost $450, which is $50 more than the current digital-edition console. If you don't care about having a slimmer console and don't want to ever upgrade to a disc drive, we recommend snagging the current, cheaper digital-edition PS5 while you still can.
When will the PS5 Slim be released?
The new slimmer version of the PS5 with a disc-drive is out now and was released in November 2023, with bundles available straight away with either Spider-Man 2 or Modern Warfare 3 in the US. The disc drive model is available for $500. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition has not made its way to stores just yet though, but it is expected very soon and will cost $450. The Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will also be available later as an add-on for $80.
Once the slim PS5s are fully released, the original PS5 models will only be available until stock sells out. Afterward, only these new, slimmer versions will be stocked in stores.
Should I wait for the PS5 Slim?
If you're on the fence about buying a PS5 now or later, you have a few things to keep in mind before making the leap. To save the most money, you'll want to buy the PS5 Digital Edition now while the older version is still available; the new Digital Edition will cost an additional $50 in the US.
For just about every other shopper though, we recommend holding out until the slim PS5 becomes available in November. The newer version is more compact and customizable for the same price. Only die-hard PlayStation collectors should consider getting their hands on the original design — because once stock sells out, it will no longer be available to purchase in stores.
Is the PS5 better than the Xbox Series X?
Since the current console generation launched in 2020, a new debate has arisen among gamers: PS5 vs. Xbox Series X. While a lot of gamers have their own preference by now, if you're still not sure which to splurge on, we found the PlayStation 5 offers a slightly more impressive gaming experience thanks to its stronger selection of exclusives and unique controller.
That said, we do think Microsoft still has an edge when it comes to Xbox Game Pass vs. PlayStation Plus.
