Tom Wilkinson, best known for his award-winning role in "The Full Monty," died Saturday at age 75, his publicist confirmed in a statement to Business Insider.

"It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Wilkinson announce that he died suddenly at home on December 30th. His wife and family were with him," the statement read. "The family asks for privacy at this time."

Wilkinson garnered praise for playing Gerald Cooper in the 1997 film, "The Full Monty," which scored him a BAFTA for supporting actor. Recently, Wilkinson revived the famed character in a new TV series set in the same universe that premiered in June 2023.

The Associated Press reported that Wilkinson received two Academy Award nominations during his career, including a best actor nomination for his 2001 film "In the Bedroom." His work in the 2007 film "Michael Clayton," which starred George Clooney, snagged him a nomination for supporting actor.

Wilkinson also appeared in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" in 2004, "Batman Begins" in 2005, and "The Grand Budapest Hotel " in 2014.

BBC reported that Wilkinson was recognized for his contributions to drama and appointed an Officer of the Order of the British in 2005.
