McDonald's is bringing back its Double Big Mac to US restaurants for a limited time.

The jumbo-sized burger is returning to menus from January 24 at participating restaurants, McDonald's said Tuesday.

The burger contains four beef patties, Big Mac sauce, pickles, lettuce, onions, and American cheese. A standard Big Mac contains two patties.

McDonald's debuted the Double Big Mac in March 2020. But, like many other fast-food chains, it streamlined its menu during the pandemic, and the Double Big Mac was cut from its lineup, alongside other items including salads.

The item's return comes as McDonald's is overhauling its burgers, including making improvements to its trademark Big Mac. Changes include softer bun bases, more sauce, and caramelized onion cooked directly on top of the patties.

In a review of the revamped burgers, Business Insider's Nancy Luna said that the taste didn't meet her expectations while Gloria Dawson said she wasn't sure how the fast food giant would implement some of the changes efficiently and at scale.

"One of the tweaks, having employees get lettuce and pickles from coolers more frequently for optimal freshness, seems like the opposite of efficiency," Dawson wrote.

McDonald's said in December that it was eyeing bigger burgers, which CEO Chris Kempczinski told CNN that customers should "expect in the future." It's unclear whether the Double Big Mac is that burger.
