Vice President Kamala Harris said she's stepping up to the plate after President Joe Biden bowed out of the 2024 race on Sunday.

In a statement issued Sunday, Harris called Biden's stepping down a "selfless and patriotic act" and thanked Biden for serving as president. She also indicated that she intends to win the Democratic nomination.

"I am honored to have the president's endorsement, and my intention is to earn and win this nomination," she wrote.

Harris also directly called out former President Donald Trump, along with Project 2025 — a legislative road map crafted by the Heritage Foundation to implement conservative policies across the nation.

"I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation — to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda."

Biden announced his decision to leave the presidential race on Sunday, saying in a statement that it was in "the best interest of my party and the country."

Immediately after the announcement, Biden endorsed Harris for president. Per a Sunday FEC filing, the Biden for President committee also officially changed its name to Harris for President.

"My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made," Biden wrote. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year."

A slew of Democrats have also endorsed Harris including the powerful Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina and former President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton.
