American Airlines passengers were stuck at airport gate for 14 hours after flight to Miami was diverted to the Bahamas

• On Saturday, a flight from Puerto Rico to Miami was diverted to the Bahamas.
• Without passports, the passengers said they spent the next 14 hours stuck in the airport.
• One passenger told Business Insider they didn't receive food or water for seven hours.

When the pilot announced that American Airlines flight 2421 to Miami was diverting to the Bahamas last Saturday, Dimas Henriquez was focused on one thing.

"I don't have a passport," Henriquez, 26, told Business Insider. "I can't be in the Bahamas. I legally can't be there."
