Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck fans were right about what they've been speculating about for months: The superstars are getting divorced, according to TMZ and US Weekly and People Magazine.
TMZ first reported that Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, the second anniversary of the pair's Georgia wedding ceremony. US Weekly confirmed these details.
Lopez filed pro per, meaning the actor and singer is representing herself without a lawyer, the outlets reported. She waived any claim to spousal support and is requesting that the judge deny any such claims Affleck may file, TMZ reported citing court documents.
She listed their date of separation as April 26, per TMZ.
Representatives for Lopez and Affleck did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.
Lopez and Affleck met through the film "Gigli" and went public with their romance in 2002. The couple announced their engagement in November of that year but broke up in 2004. In later interviews, Lopez and Affleck said that the intense media attention contributed to their split.
After breaking up, the stars married and had kids with other people.
Lopez welcomed twins named Max and Emme with then-husband Marc Anthony. Affleck married Jennifer Garner and she gave birth to three children: daughters Violet and Seraphina and son Samuel. Both relationships ended, and Lopez and Affleck went on to co-parent with their exes.
Lopez and Affleck reconnected in 2021, following her breakup with baseball star Alex Rodriguez. The singer made their rekindled relationship Instagram-official in July of that year, on her 52nd birthday.
Lopez announced their second engagement via her newsletter On the JLo in April 2022 and the couple got married in Vegas in July. A more formal wedding ceremony took place in Georgia in August.
Throughout their relationship, the pair got matching tattoos and attended high-profile events together, including awards shows, movie premieres, and the Met Gala. Lopez's most recent album, "This Is Me... Now," was also largely inspired by their romance.
Speculation about marriage issues began in May when Lopez and Affleck made separate appearances at major events. Affleck attended Netflix's "The Roast of Tom Brady" solo, and Lopez went to the Met Gala without the actor and director.
Us Weekly reported that the couple was having relationship problems and a source told People that Affleck was living separately from Lopez while filming "The Accountant 2." Lopez then canceled her US summer 2024 tour.
"Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends,'" read an announcement in her newsletter.
In June, People reported that Lopez and Affleck were "focused on their separate lives" and didn't have "any summer plans together."
