- Nancy Pelosi laughed when asked about Trump's choice of JD Vance as his running mate.
- "I think it was a great choice," she told CBS News on Sunday morning.
- Vance's rollout has been rocky, and his approval ratings are plummeting.
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi laughed when asked whether former President Trump had messed up by choosing JD Vance as his running mate.
In a Sunday morning CBS News interview, Pelosi was asked if Trump made a mistake.
"I think it was a great choice," Pelosi responded before bursting out laughing.
Later in the interview, Pelosi described Vance as "menacing."
Vance's rollout as running mate has been rocky, to say the least.
Viral comments about "childless cat ladies," awkward rally performances, and a flood of couch memes have raised doubts about Trump's decision.
And his approval ratings are below water.
According to FiveThirtyEight's polling averages, Vance now has an average unfavorable rating of 8.4.
Vice-presidential nominees typically receive a ratings bump after their party's convention, but according to FiveThirtyEight's polling averages, Vance was polling at about -6 points just a week after accepting the nomination.
At the time, Vice President Kamala Harris' team sent out a press release capitalizing on the dismal numbers.
"We'd like to be the first to congratulate JD Vance on making history as the least popular VP pick, well…ever," it said.
Selecting Vance was another example of Trump throwing the political rulebook out the window.
Typically, presidential candidates choose a running mate to "balance the ticket" on ideological, geographic, or demographic grounds.
However, in choosing a white, male, Ivy-educated candidate with business experience who is now firmly in the MAGA camp, he opted for a mini-me instead of balance.
