Stephen King has been posting on social media again, but this time it's not political — it's all about his latest book. And from the sounds of it, this could be a big one for fans.
On Thursday, the horror master took to Threads — his preferred platform these days — to share an update about his latest work in progress.
"The Talisman 3 is almost done," King wrote.
To recap, The Talisman is a series King co-wrote with the late horror author Peter Straub. The first novel was published in 1984, and its sequel Black House came out in 2001. Earlier in the year, King revealed that Straub had had an idea for a third book before he died in 2022.
"Peter Straub had a terrific idea before passing away," King wrote on Threads. "Dual credit, as on THE TALISMAN and BLACK HOUSE. But as always, I can never be sure a book will be done until it is. This one has a long way to go."
Well, it's a good thing King is a speedy writer, because it sounds as though — six months later — he's nearly finished.
The Talisman series has several overlaps with The Dark Tower series — certain settings are the same, and key Dark Tower characters are mentioned directly in Black House — and it sounds as though this third book will be no exception.
"Speaking carefully--no spoilers--I think you will find yourself in Mid-World again when you read T3," wrote King, referencing the area that's the backdrop for much of The Dark Tower series.
King went on to reveal that main character Jack Sawyer is 57 years old in this new book (he starts the series as a 12-year-old boy in The Talisman). "It's been an interesting life," he wrote.
It's not completely clear if this is the project King had in mind when he was posting last year about a new novel set in The Dark Tower universe, or something separate. But it's exciting either way.
