Mercedes
- Mercedes unveiled the very first electric Maybach: the EQS SUV.
- The ultra-luxurious EV is decked out in tons of leather and wood — plus lots of Maybach logos.
- Its back seat is designed for relaxing with some chilled champagne. In a silver-plated flute, of course.
If only HBO's "Succession" was extended into 2024, we'd almost certainly see the billionaire Roy family pull up to their private jet or some nail-biting business meeting in this: the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV.
Mercedes-Benz
It's the very first electric vehicle from Maybach, Mercedes-Benz's ultra-luxury brand.
Mercedes-Benz
And it looks exquisite.
Mercedes-Benz
The Maybach EQS SUV shares a lot with the regular Mercedes EQS SUV.
Mercedes-Benz
But from its two-tone exterior to its impossibly swanky back seat, the Maybach sits on a whole different plane of opulence.
Mercedes-Benz
While Mercedes has kept quiet about the Maybach's pricing, expect it to push $300,000.
Mercedes-Benz
The gas-powered Maybach S-Class 680 sedan costs $229,000 before options, so we'd expect the electric SUV to run you quite a bit more than that.
Mercedes-Benz
Up front, the SUV sports a shiny faux grille (there's no engine, remember?) with vertical, chrome-plated strips. That's classic Maybach.
Mercedes-Benz
And it's available in five different two-tone paint jobs, another hallmark of Maybach design.
Mercedes-Benz
You'll also find bold, chrome trim around the windows…
Mercedes
… and chunky rims that give the whole vehicle some extra weight and presence.
Mercedes-Benz
Just in case you or any bystanders forget who made the SUV, there are Maybach logos positively everywhere, like below the headlights ...
Mercedes
... on the running boards ...
Mercedes
… and projected onto the ground when you open each door.
Mercedes
The Maybach's cushy interior is really the star of the show.
Mercedes-Benz
It comes standard with the MBUX Hyperscreen, a collection of three screens spanning 57 inches.
Mercedes
Back-seat passengers get two screens as well, plus a tablet embedded in the center armrest.
Mercedes
And the Maybach features more leather and wood than your grandpa's den.
Mercedes-Benz
All the leather is sustainably tanned in a process that uses coffee-bean shells rather than harsh chemicals, Mercedes says.
Mercedes
Everywhere in the Maybach EQS SUV looks incredibly comfortable, but the back seat is where you really want to spend time.
Mercedes
The rear seats come with ventilation, neck and shoulder heating, and massage functions. Calf massagers are optional.
Mercedes
The "First-Class Rear" package adds an elongated center console, thermal cupholders, and wood trim on the rear storage compartment.
Mercedes
And who could forget: The option also adds another couple of Maybach logos projected onto the floor.
Mercedes-Benz
Optionally, buyers can outfit the rear cubby with silver-plated champagne flutes, folding tables, and a refrigerated compartment.
Mercedes
There's also 64-color ambient lighting and a standard "Air Balance" package that pumps fragrances into the cabin.
Mercedes
I haven't gotten a whiff of the exclusive perfume Maybach had developed for the car, so I'll let the company describe it: "It does not aim to please but to seduce with an exclusive composition of stimulating sandalwood combined with notes of spices."
Mercedes
The Maybach EQS SUV comes with all-wheel drive and hits 60 mph in a breezy 4.1 seconds.
Mercedes-Benz
It sports 649 horsepower and an estimated 600 kilometers (372 miles) of range.
Mercedes
But most buyers probably don't care about that. They'll be kicking back and closing deals, not worrying about pedestrian matters like driving and charging.
