The microphone that Cardi B threw at a fan during a show in a now viral video is up for auction on eBay, and the bidding has skyrocketed to nearly $100,000 since it was listed on Tuesday with an initial price of $500.

The mic is being sold by Scott Fischer, the owner of The Wave, the audio company that provided the equipment to Drai's Beachclub in Las Vegas where the incident happened.

"Shure Axient digital Mic Cardi B threw at a person," the listing reads. "Auctioned for charity. If you want a piece of hip hop infamy and what has now become national and world news then please bid whatever you are willing to spend."

In the video in question, Cardi B is performing onstage when an audience member throws their drink at her, splashing her with liquid and ice. She reacts by launching her mic overhand at the person before security intervenes. The woman hit by the mic later reported a "battery" at a local police station, which was confirmed by Las Vegas police.

Fischer told Insider that when he learned about the incident he was initially just worried about damage to the microphone, which he said cost about $1,000. 

"I ended up getting a video sent to me from my shop manager who said 'Hey Scott, just letting you know that one of our mics got tossed,'" Fischer said. "The last time I got those microphones, which was earlier this year, it took 9 or 10 months back order. And I'm sitting there going, 'Man, I hope I can replace this, I hope I can get this fixed if it's broken.'"

Fischer said it was easy to identify which mic was thrown by its markings and label, and it does still work. It was only later, though, after the video went viral and people started asking to buy the mic or telling him he should sell it, that he decided to put it up for auction and give the money to charity.

Fischer said he's amazed that it's gotten as much traction as it has, but has doubt over whether or not the bidders are actually serious about it.

"It's been ridiculously insane," Fischer said. "As long as somebody actually pays for it, some people are going to benefit, hopefully, from the money."

Fischer plans on keeping just enough of the money to recoup his cost and replace the mic. The rest, he said, he plans on splitting between two charities: the first is a local Jewish charity called The Friendship Circle, and the second is the Wounded Warrior project, in honor of his family members who are veterans.

Cardi B did not respond to Insider's request for comment.
