The newest NYU dorm.
  • I'm a freshman at NYU, and I live in the school's newest dorm building.
  • I share a spacious room with two other girls, and we all share the bathroom.
  • The new building has a café, a gym, and a large study space.

Whenever I meet another New York University student and tell them I live in the John A. Paulson Center, they usually roll their eyes at me out of envy. I must admit I would feel the same way if I were in their shoes.

Since it's the newest residence hall at NYU, my dorm building has a lot to offer. From big dorm rooms to great study spaces, the Paulson Center is unparalleled among the other NYU dorms in my opinion.

I live in a spacious triple studio with two other roommates.

My two roommates and I share one big room. We also have a bathroom conveniently connected to it that the three of us share.

My side of the room is a work in progress.

I plan to decorate it more as the semester progresses with posters and plants. I'm keeping my side of the room very minimalistic and clean for the time being, using the space under my bed as storage for my clothes and miscellaneous items.

My desk space is decorated with some mementos from back home in Canada — as well as some new ones from New York City.

As I continue to explore the city, I hope to fill up my bulletin board with photo strips, postcards, and other keepsake items I find. I have a few books on my shelf, some for personal use and some for school — although I don't tend to do any schoolwork in my dorm room. I try and get out and utilize all the study spaces available at NYU.

Our bathroom is quite modern and spacious — unlike bathrooms you would typically find in a college dorm.

This setup works well for my roommates and me — especially because we don't have to share the bathroom with four other people, which is typically the case in NYU's traditional suites.

Our closet is split into three sections, so we each get our own space.

The closet is spacious enough that it allows for some overhead storage, which we use for cleaning supplies and bath towels.

During the first week of school, we purchased a mini fridge for our room which has been a lifesaver.

We stockpile fruit from the dining hall and store any leftovers from the week in case we don't feel like going out for a meal.

When our mini fridge isn't enough, we have a great food option – called Crave — in the building.

Crave Cafe.

Crave, on the sixth floor of Paulson, is one of NYU's dining locations.

It offers a wide variety of interesting food options, such as banh mi sandwiches, chipotle barbecue sweet-potato bowls, vegan falafel sandwiches, tikka masala rice bowls, and much more.

I can order in advance through the Grub Hub app or order on-site at one of the kiosks — which is usually what I opt for.

With its convenient location and unique menu, Crave has become one of my favorite spots to grab a bite to eat at NYU.

The Paulson building also has great quiet spaces for studying.

A great space to study.

The quiet study room on the third floor of Paulson is my favorite place in the whole building; it's my go-to study spot when I need to find some peace and quiet.

I usually end up spending at least a few hours here every day after class — sometimes taking breaks in between to grab food or go back up to my dorm for a bit.

The building also has a great gym.

The gym.

Although relatively small, the gym inside Paulson should not be underestimated. Located on the first floor, it has everything I need to get a great workout.

They have a broad selection of cardio machines, including treadmills, StairMasters, stationary bikes, and ellipticals. Although I tend to gravitate toward the free weights, there are also a handful of machines such as a chest press, shoulder press, and leg press.

Since many NYU students frequent the other on-campus gyms over this one, the Paulson gym is usually quite empty, making it the perfect spot to get in a quick workout before or after class.

It's safe to say that the John A. Paulson Center at NYU has everything I could want in a college dorm.

With all these amenities, I sometimes don't leave my dorm building for days. But when I do, I have New York City at my doorstep.
