The wait is over: Vice President Kamala Harris is finally doing an interview.

CNN announced on Tuesday evening that the vice president will sit for a joint interview on the network with her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, in Georgia on Thursday.

The duo will be interviewed by Dana Bash, and it will air at 9 p.m. Eastern time that night.

It's been a long time coming. Harris first announced her candidacy for president 37 days ago, after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race. Since then, she has not done any formal interviews with journalists and has only answered a few questions in gaggles with reporters.

After a rally in Detroit on August 8, Harris told reporters that she wanted to "get an interview scheduled before the end of the month."

The Trump campaign and other Republicans have criticized Harris for her campaign's relatively scripted approach. Sen. JD Vance in particular has made Harris' lack of interviews a recurring line of attack in his public appearances.

But media outlets have also grown impatient with the vice president. On Tuesday, the New York Times published a list of potential questions that Harris should have to answer.

Defenders of Harris' approach have argued that she has needed time to establish her campaign and roll out policy proposals before engaging significantly with the media. Some have also argued that the media, by insisting that Harris take questions, is insufficiently focused on substance.

In any event, Thursday night's interview — Harris' and Walz's first public appearance that isn't choreographed by the campaign — is likely to be a high-stakes affair.
