In February, Portugal announced it will stop accepting new applications to its golden visa program as part of a package to help alleviate the housing crisis.
Portugal's golden visa program was originally launched in 2011 during the financial crisis. It has since raised €6.8 billion in foreign investment, 90% of which went toward local real estate, according to the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service.
