Walmart may have yet another new offering for other businesses soon as the company continues to focus on growing profits outside of its brick-and-mortar stores.
In a trademark application for the term "CLUBHOUSE" filed on April 6, the company says it hopes to offer consumer, business, and market research, as well as "prototype fabrication" and website design and implementation, "for others."
A Walmart spokesperson did not answer Insider's questions about the trademark filing, instead saying the company is "testing new ideas all the time."
"Some ideas become products or services that make it to customers and members," the spokesperson said. "And some we test, iterate, and learn from. While we can't comment on this trademark filing specifically, sometimes we file trademark ideas as a routine part of the innovation process."
The spokesperson did not say whether the offering in the trademark would be through Sam's Club, Walmart's affiliate membership-only warehouse chain, or through Walmart as a whole.
This trademark indicates that Walmart is continuing its trend of side hustles, or businesses outside of its traditional retail, to garner profits. In recent years, the company has unveiled arms focused on data analytics, advertising, fulfillment services, and more.
